Marv Kay Stadium at Campbell Field

Stadium Fan Information

While it may be one of the world's oldest football fields, Marv Kay Stadium at Harry D. Campbell Field and the Harold M. and Patricia M. Korell Athletics Center combine to provide Colorado School of Mines football one of the best and most modern homes in NCAA Division II.

Opened in 2015 on the site of historic Campbell Field, the $21 million project seats more than 4,000 fans, with a two-level home grandstand on the south side and visitor seating on the north side. The ground level of the Korell Athletics Center contains locker rooms for football, cross country, and track & field (which competes at the adjacent Stermole Track & Field Complex), the McKee Weight Room with more than 5,400 square feet of space, sports medicine and hydrotherapy areas, and an equipment room to handle the sports that call the Clear Creek Athletic Complex home. The center's second level houses football office and meeting spaces - including an all-team auditorium and six smaller breakout rooms - to go with the concourse level of the stadium and the Blaster Room special function area. The stadium's third level contains press row, operations, and the president's suite. Marv Kay Stadium achieved LEED Silver certification.

Home to Mines football since 1893, the site is the oldest football field west of the Mississippi River and the oldest in NCAA Division II. Situated along Clear Creek at 12th and Maple Streets, its original name was Athletic Park, later renamed Brooks Field along with the construction of grandstands in 1922 after Mines trustee and benefactor Ralph D. Brooks. In 2010, artificial turf was installed and it was named Campbell Field after benefactor Harry D. Campbell. The new stadium is named in honor of longtime coach and athletic director Marv Kay to recognize his decades of dedication to Mines athletics.

The site has been home to a number of firsts since the Orediggers met and beat the University of Denver on Oct. 7, 1893. The first live football telecast in the Rockies took place on Nov. 1, 1952 against Idaho State, and two weeks later the first national football telecast from the Rockies originated from Brooks Field against Colorado College. Three NFL teams - the Denver Broncos, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Baltimore Colts - have held training camps at the field, and 18 championship Mines teams have called it home, spanning 125 years from the 1893 Colorado Football Association championship to the 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title. The site has hosted NCAA Championship tournament games in 2004, 2018, and 2019.
