The
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), is proud to announce the kick off of the 2018 Mines Athletics Reading Program, Minds in Motion, this month at
Mitchell Elementary (4th grade) and
Everitt Middle School (6th grade). This outreach initiative, started by SAAC in 2017, has proven to be a great opportunity for Mines students to mentor youth in the community as well as the opportunity for community youth to work with local college student-athletes in a group-learning and team-building environment. Mines students visit each school once per month to read to, interact with, and play with the elementary school students.
All Mines Athletics teams are involved in this new SAAC reading outreach endeavor, taking place once per month and led by
Caleb Ring (swimming) and
Ali Artzberger (track & field). Visits consist of 30 minutes of reading (sport and team-related books with inspiring/motivational themes) and 30 minutes of physical activities. Mines teams meet with two classes at each school, totaling 50 students per school, per monthly visit.
