Congratulations to Oredigger Women's Soccer, Volleyball and Wrestling, the champions of the 2018 Mines Athletics Food Fight!  The teams will be honored at halftime of the Men's Basketball game on Friday, February 8 (Mines vs Chadron State at 8:00pm).  Women's Soccer won for total weight of canned/boxed donations, Volleyball won for total weight of donated coins, and Wrestling won for total funds raised and total funds to cans.

Together, Mines Athletics raised $415.18, collected 354 physical cans/food items, and with funds converted to cans, teams collectively compiled 1,249 cans (1,603 with funds converted to cans) and 1,505 pounds of food!  All canned and boxed donation items will be donated to Golden's Christian Action Guild (Food Bank) on Friday, November 30 and the $415.18 has been donated to the Blaster's Basket (on-campus food pantry).  Below includes the team results and overall donation numbers from the 2018 campaign.

The Mines Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, led by SAAC members Lena Long-Shore and George Marchant, partnered with all 18 Mines Athletics teams for the 2018 Food Fight to raise funds to fight hunger on campus and in the Golden community.  Coin collection jars and food collection boxes were available at all home events, and at the Student Recreation Center, October 31 through November 19.

The Food Fight was a competition between all 18 Mines Athletics teams, in which each team had a donation jar for fans and patrons to donate change to as well as a food collection box. As this was partly a weighted competition, the team with the heaviest jar, heaviest physical donations, and overall funds raised at the end of the challenge was the winner(s).  The idea was for all participants to raise funds and collect goods with all donations going to benefit Golden's Christian Action Guild (Food Bank) and the Colorado School of Mines Blaster's Basket (on-campus food pantry).

The Food Fight and Canned Food Drive initiative by Mines Athletics is in support of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) SAAC Community Outreach Campaign.

A great thank you to Mines student-athletes and fans for your support!
