LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Angie Charchalis poured in a team-high 18 points but the Colorado School of Mines women's basketball squad was hampered by 25 turnovers in falling to New Mexico Highlands by a 69-56 final on Friday evening in conference play.
The Orediggers (3-9, 2-4 RMAC) nearly doubled the Cowgirls' (6-5, 2-5 RMAC) number of turnovers (25-to-13) in the matchup, and were also limited to just 27.4 percent shooting (17-of-62) in the loss.
The two teams went into halftime knotted up at 26-26, but timely shooting by homestanding NMHU allowed the hosts to increase their lead throughout the second half.
NMHU used a 32-to-20 advantage on points in the paint and a 16-to-8 advantage in points off turnovers to capture the victory.
Charchalis totaled 18 points despite a 3-of-12 shooting effort from the floor. She did a lot of her damage at the free throw line after finishing her night a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe.
Stephanie Fogle added 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-4 from 3-point land. Katie Clements contributed eight points of her own and led the team with two assists.
Tory Langas pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while posting five points and three steals.
The Orediggers will look to get back into the win column tomorrow when they head to Silver City, N.M., for a matchup with Western New Mexico at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs (0-10, 0-7 RMAC) fell to Colorado Christian on Friday evening by a score of 75-59.
