Volleyball Holds At No. 2 In South Central Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following a 3-0 win over Colorado Mesa in the quarterfinal round of the RMAC Volleyball Tournament, the No. 12 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team held strong at No. 2 in this week's edition of the NCAA Division II South Central Region Rankings. 

The Orediggers have won 18 of their last 19 contests. The squad has posted 18 straight-set victories this season, including seven during its current eight-match winning streak.

The squad's 24 victories add to the current school record and Mines owns a 11-1 record against teams currently ranked in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings.

Senior Jackie Stabell, the RMAC Offensive Player of the Year, leads the team with 359 kills at an average of 3.59 per set, while junior Melanie Wannamaker, a Second Team All-RMAC selection, leads the team and the conference with a .385 attack percentage on 330 kills.

Senior Holly Hutchison, a Third Team All-RMAC selection, has logged 240 kills at an average of 2.40 per set on the season. She and Wannamaker lead the team with 71 and 90 blocks, respectively.

Freshman Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood, a Second Team All-RMAC selection, leads the conference and is 10th nationally with an average of 11.61 assists per set. She has also logged a team-high 11 double-doubles this season, including one in the Orediggers' 3-0 win over Colorado Mesa on Tuesday.

Top-seeded Mines (24-5) will face fifth-seeded CCU (24-8) in one of the RMAC Tournament semifinal matchups on Friday evening at Lockridge Arena. That contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of the matchup will face the winner of the Adams State/Regis matchup in Saturday's RMAC Tournament Championship that will take place at 7 p.m. ASU and Regis will square off at 5 p.m. at Lockridge Arena.
