Bagley's First Of Year Propels Mines Into RMAC Championship Game
Bookmark and Share

GOLDEN – Senior defender Aubrey Bagley recorded her first score of the season and the NSCAA No. 19 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team defeated third-seed Metro State, 1-0, in the semifinals of the RMAC Tournament Friday at the CSM Soccer Stadium in Golden.

With their eighth win in nine contests, the second-seed Orediggers (14-4-1) advanced to Sunday's RMAC Championship at 11:30 a.m. at Regis for the opportunity to defend their 2011 RMAC Championship crown. The top-seed Rangers advanced to the finals with a 3-1 decision at home over fifth-seed Fort Lewis earlier this afternoon.

Following a rather balanced first half in terms of time of possession that saw each team collect six shots, Mines found the pivotal score in the 64th minute. Bagley, a San Antonio, Texas native, gained possession around midfield, and upon blazing her way to inside the box, split two defenders and beat the keeper to her left with a low strike from six yards away.

Despite allowing only three shots on goal to the Roadrunners (13-5-2), the Orediggers received a scare in the closing seconds of the game as Metro State's Kelci Newlin launched a deep shot on target with 16 ticks remaining, yet freshman keeper Jayln Yates made the sure-handed stop, one of three saves for her on the day.

Seniors Megan Woodworth and Dani Hering paced Mines with three shots apiece, while Woodworth finished with a team-high two shots on frame as the Orediggers outshot the Roadrunners 11-to-10 and 5-to-3, respectively.

Sunday's championship tilt will be the second meeting between Mines and Regis this season. The Orediggers defeated the Rangers (13-4-2) two-nil at home back on Oct. 5 behind a pair of first half tallies from junior Bree Archuleta and Woodworth.
