SPEARFISH, S.D. – Led by another 20-kill performance by senior All-American Melanie Wannamaker, the No. 15 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team extended its program record win streak to 13 matches with a 3-0 win over Black Hills State on Saturday afternoon.
Set scores for the match were 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21.
Mines (20-4, 14-1 RMAC) hit .262 as a squad and posted a .70 sideout percentage to stay atop the RMAC standings. Mines now holds a three-match lead over Colorado Mesa, Western New Mexico, Colorado Christian, Regis and Adams State in the RMAC standings with four matches to play.
With one more win the squad will clinch a share of the RMAC regular season championship, and two wins will give the squad the title outright. Mines captured its first-ever conference volleyball crown last season.
The Orediggers will host Regis and Metro State next weekend.
Saturday's victory was Mines' 20th in its last 21 matches, and also marked the third 20-win season for head coach Jamie Skadeland in her sixth season at the helm of the program. The win over the Yellow Jackets (6-18, 2-13 RMAC) was also the 125th of Skadeland's career.
Wannamaker notched her fifth 20-plus kill effort of the season with 20 on Saturday. She hit .326 on 43 attempts while adding six digs on the defensive end.
Junior Sarah Pekarek followed with 13 kills to account for both Orediggers in double figures, and added 15 digs on the defensive side for her 10th double-double of the season and her second in as many matches.
Freshman Abby Reuland added seven kills on a .312 attack percentage and Megan Peterson notched four at a .300 clip.
Peterson tied for the team lead with Alanna Winfield after each athlete totaled three blocks in the match.
Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood recorded 44 assists and had her double-double streak stopped at three matches with just one dig on the defensive side.
Senior Hannah Margheim led the defense with 13 digs, while the duo of Cassie Vick and Corrine Din combined for 15.
Mines will return to the friendly confines of Lockridge Arena next weekend when the squad hosts Regis and Metro State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
