DURANGO – Juniors Courtney Derus and Morgan Anderson combined for three home runs and five RBI and the NFCA No. 12 Colorado School of Mines softball team rebounded from a one-run setback to Fort Lewis with a 6-3 win over the Skyhawks in the nightcap Friday at Aspen Field in Durango.

Derus turned a 3-2 deficit into 5-3 lead with a three-run, pinch-hit home run to centerfield in the fifth inning and brought the game's final margin to fruition with a solo blast down the left field line in the seventh for her first career multi-homer game and fourth by an Oredigger this season.

The Pittsburgh transfer finished 2-for-2 and moved into the team lead for multi-RBI efforts with nine, including a team-high three games of four RBI.

Anderson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, giving Mines (23-4-1, 14-2 RMAC) a 2-0 lead with a leadoff solo homer to right field in the third inning, her first of the season.

Senior Kamee Vessey was 2-for-3 with one RBI, sophomore Paige Coufal went 2-for-2 with two walks and freshman Elise Dugwyler was 2-for-3 as the Orediggers combined for 13 base hits, their seventh game of 10 or more hits in the past 11.

Vessey has reached base safely in a team season-best 16 straight games and is hitting .538 (7-for-13) over her last four.

Senior Ashley Goletz pitched six scoreless frames and worked around a three-run third by Fort Lewis (7-14, 5-11 RMAC) to push her overall record to 9-3. She struck out four and walked just one in the complete game with 64-of-90 pitches inside the strike zone.

The teams conclude the four-game set with an 11 a.m./1 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow.
