Mines (2-1, 1-0 RMAC) got a stellar effort out of junior quarterback Matt Brown, who finished 31-of-40 for 380 yards and six touchdowns through the air, while adding 85 yards on six carries for 465 yards of total offense for the second-straight week. Brown's six touchdown passes set a new career high for the Limon product, and places him in a tie for the second-most touchdown passes in a single game in Mines' history.
Brown eclipsed a personal milestone on Saturday by going over 5,000 career passing yards.
The Petroleum Engineering major entered the contest as the national leader in total offense per game (469.0).
The offense ran through 101 plays en route to its 749 yards of total offense, which breaks the mark of 727 set in Mines' season-opening 72-6 victory over South Dakota Mines just two weeks ago.
Senior Dan Palmer highlighted Mines' 228-yard rushing attack with 71 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Palmer now sits just 33 points shy of tying the program's all-time mark for points in a career of 257 set by Aaron Abel. He is also just 517 yards shy of tying the Mines all-time rushing yardage mark of 2,516 set by 2013 Mines Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Greg Marshall. He went over 2,000 yards for his career with his 71-yard effort on Saturday.
Joe Schneider finished 14-of-21 for 141 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the second half.
As a squad, Mines finished 45-of-61 for 521 yards and eight touchdowns through the air on the afternoon.
Redshirt freshman Ty Young led all receivers with nine receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown, while Jimmy Ellis added seven catches for 60 yards and a score.
Justin Dvorak and Diamond Gillis each caught two scoring passes as well, while Matt Schmid and Alex Waner added touchdown receptions of 16 and six yards, respectively.
Defensively, Mines was led by Billy Sprague, who spearheaded the Mines' defensive efforts that limited BHSU (0-3, 0-1 RMAC) to 291 total yards, including just 87 on the ground. Sprague recorded six tackles (four solo) and 1.0 tackle for a loss of four yards.
Tyler Denson added five stops (four solo) and a 1.0 tackle for a loss of five yards, while Ryan Wood and Jalen Champagne chipped in four solo stops apiece.
Tommy Hoskins recorded three tackles, with 2.0 of them going for a combined loss of 10 yards.
Mines will return to the friendly confines of Campbell Field next weekend when the squad hosts New Mexico Highlands (2-1, 1-0 RMAC) in the 2013 Homecoming Game at noon.
