GOLDEN – Sophomore Caitlin Kaltenbaugh logged the deciding goal in the 19th minute and NSCAA No. 16 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer prevailed 1-0 Sunday afternoon against Western State in a clash of the RMAC's top defensive sides.

Set up by senior Kendra Bulawa, Kaltenbaugh took the pass at the left edge of box and sent the eventual game-winner from eight yards past a sliding keeper to the far net at 18:57.

The Orediggers (13-1-2, 10-1-1 RMAC) limited Western State (6-5-5, 3-5-4 RMAC) to only 10 shots and two shots on frame, outshooting the Mountaineers 19-10 and 4-2, respectively.

Kaltenbaugh led with three of her six tries on target. Redshirt freshman Haley Cole added one on-goal attempt.

Junior Jayln Yates (13-1-2) saved both WSCU looks in the complete 90:00 minutes, ascending into a tie for 15th in the Division II archives with 34 career shutouts – two shy of equaling the RMAC record of 36 shared by Rachel Zollner (2005-07) and Mandy Allen (2002-05) of Metro State.

Back atop the league standings following Sunday's 1-1 draw between Metro State and New Mexico Highlands, Mines opposes the No. 8 Roadrunners at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at The Regency Athletic Complex in Denver.
