INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 4 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 2 in the third installment of the NCAA South Central Region volleyball rankings, the NCAA office announced Wednesday.
Mines (25-2) trails fellow RMAC co-champion No. 8 Colorado Mesa (25-3)in the rankings. The rankings do not include Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Adams State in the quarterfinal round of the RMAC Tournament.
Mines sits ahead of Regis (19-8), No. 22 MSU Denver (22-5) and No. 21 West Texas A&M (31-3) in the top five.
The NCAA Regional Rankings are the only official rankings that determine the 64-team NCAA Division II volleyball tournament field. The top-eight teams from each region are selected for the NCAA Division II national tournament, with the RMAC, Lone Star Conference (LSC) and Heartland Conference (HC) tournament champions receiving automatic bids into the tournament.
Mines has advanced to the past five NCAA Tournaments, with six total appearances in program history.
The Orediggers will go for their first-ever RMAC Tournament Championship this weekend in Grand Junction. Mines will open up action on Friday against third-seeded MSU Denver at 4 p.m. in the tournament semifinals. A win on Friday would send the squad to the RMAC Tournament Championship for the second time in the past three seasons.
