GAME 2 BOX SCORE

SAN ANGELO, Texas  – Colorado School of Mines softball opened the season against a pair of 2014 NCAA tournament participants Friday, stumbling 11-0 in five innings to NFCA No. 11 Angelo State and 5-4 to St. Edward's as part of the George McCorkle Challenge in San Angelo, Texas.

Mines (0-2) generated only three hits in the opener, two coming from sophomore Paige Noehring and freshman Pua Fujinaga in the first at-bat when the Orediggers advanced runners to second and third with one out.

Freshman Sonoma Toot added a one-out single to center in the fourth.

Voted second only to defending national champion West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll, the Rambelles (2-0) pushed three or more runs across in three at-bats, including four in the third on three hits and two errors.

The Orediggers appeared in line for a second shutout trailing SEU (2-2) 4-0 entering the seventh, but a trio of RBI base hits by junior Elise Dugwyler, Fujinaga and senior Cassie Ford forced the Hilltoppers to the plate in the bottom of the frame.

Following two walks and a fielder's choice, SEU earned the walk-off win on an error in the outfield.

Noehring closed 3-for-4 with one run in the nightcap, extending her season-ending hitting streak from 2014 to 16 in a row.

Ford batted 2-for-4 with two RBI, while junior Dana Gallegos was 2-for-3 with one run scored as Mines outhit the Hilltoppers, 10-5.

Back in her home state, freshman Hallie Smith (0-1) threw 6.2 innings in her debut with two strikeouts and only one earned run allowed on five hits.

The women continue the three-day event Saturday, facing SEU at 9:30 a.m. (MST) and Texas A&M International at 4:30 p.m. at Mayer Field.
