GRAND JUNCTION – Colorado Christian generated 30 hits, four home runs and three at-bats of five or more runs to take the series' opening softball doubleheader against Colorado School of Mines, 10-6 and 12-10, on Saturday at CMU Softball Field in Grand Junction.

Mines led 4-0 after one inning and 6-2 through four in game one, but fell victim to an eight-run, seven-hit sixth by the Cougars (5-11, 2-2 RMAC).

Junior Dana Gallegos had four of the team's 12 hits, swinging a career-best 4-for-4 with a first-inning RBI double and two runs scored.

Sophomore Paige Noehring was 2-for-3 with two runs, one double and a walk; freshman Pua Fujinaga hit 2-for-4 – both two-baggers, and freshman Sonoma Toot closed 1-for-4 with a two-run single in the fourth.

It was all CCU to start in the afternoon finale as the Cougars outhit the women 14-1 in the first four frames and built a 10-0 margin.

Led by two-RBI base hits from Toot and Gallegos, the Orediggers (1-16, 0-5 RMAC) fought back to even the score behind five runs on four hits in the fifth and sixth innings.

CCU followed with a two-run homer to left in its next at-bat and retired the side in the seventh to claim consecutive wins in the series for the first time.

Gallegos added her team-leading ninth multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 line and career-high three RBI.

Toot batted 2-for-3 with two RBI, two doubles and a walk. Noehring (1-for-3), Fujinaga (1-for-4) and senior Cassie Ford (0-for3) each plated one.

The Orediggers and Cougars conclude the four-game set at 11 a.m. Sunday.
