LAS VEGAS, N.M. – New Mexico Highlands retained its hopes of a postseason berth in the conference tourney Saturday, defeating Colorado School of Mines softball 6-2 and 8-6 in the initial games of the four-game series in Las Vegas, N.M.

The Cowgirls (21-25, 15-18 RMAC) got off to a fast start in the opener behind six runs in four plate appearances, including three in the first, and rallied from a 6-3 margin in game two with the final five runs of the afternoon. 

Sophomore Paige Noehring finished the day a combined 5-for-8 with three of the team's five RBI; she hit 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 with a two-run double, respectively, to extend her streak of multi-hit games to five in a row.

Junior Dana Gallegos followed a 1-for-4 opener with a 2-for-4 performance, totaling three stolen bases and two runs, and freshman Sonoma Toot mustered 1-for-3 efforts, capped by a fourth-inning, two-RBI single in the nightcap.

Freshman Pua Fujinaga added a 2-for-3, one double line in game one, while junior Elise Dugwyler swung 2-for-3 with two runs and sophomore Jackie Vasquez 2-for-2 with one two-bagger to round out the nine game two hits.

Mines (10-37, 8-25) wraps up the regular season at 10 a.m. on Sunday at Brandt Fields.
