How It Happened
#21 Colorado School of Mines was dominant as they hit .380 for the match to earn a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15) shutout victory at Chadron State in the regular season finale.Â
Mines (21-6, 15-3) got 15 kills on .464 hitting from
Janice Jin and 13 kills on .600 hitting from
Ellie Monarch to lock up the #2 overall seed for next week's RMAC Tournament.Â
Leading only 19-18 in the opening set, the Orediggers got back-to-back kills from
Janice Jin to finally get a bit of breathing room. They then used that momentum to pull away with the set one victory, 25-21. Mines set the tone of the entire match by hitting. 424 in the period.Â
That first set ended up being as close as the Eagles would get though as the Orediggers kept up their torrid hitting pace. While CSC hit very well in the opening frame – Mines cooled them off considerably the rest of the way.Â
The second set saw Mines take an early 12-11 lead and turn it into a commanding 22-13 advantage in the blink of an eye en route to a 25-16 win. Then, in the third frame, the Orediggers jumped on Chadron State early and often in a 25-15 runaway to complete the sweep.
