Balanced Attack Gives #22 Mines Victory at Adams State

How It Happened
A dominant but balanced offensive effort leads #22 Colorado School of Mines to a 3-1 (25-18, 31-29, 20-25, 25-17) victory at Adams State on Friday, November 4 at Plachy Hall.

Mines (19-5, 13-2) got double-digit kills from Ashlyn Eitemiller, LaRose Currie, Alanna Winfield and Ellie Monarch to fight off a feisty Grizzlies (14-10, 9-6) squad.

The opening frame saw the Orediggers jump out to a sizeable lead and ASU narrow it back to two points on multiple occasions. That happened all the way until Mines took a 17-15 lead and turned it into a 25-18 victory on a final 8-3 run.

While the first set may have been a ho-hum affair, the second set was an all-time classic thriller. Both teams battled each other toe-to-toe and neck-and-neck all the way into tiebreakers. After both teams fought off danger multiple times, the Orediggers finally broke the deadlock on a kill by Alanna Winfield to go up 30-29.

Winfield then immediately put the game away when she grooved in a service ace on the very next play to Mines up 2-0.

After dropping the third set, the Orediggers jumped on Adams State early in the fourth frame and never looked back to cruise to a 25-17 win. Mines hit .333 as a team in the period and got five kills from Ashlyn Eitemiller to put the match away.
