Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | by Trey Bloomer

Currie Leads #18 Mines to Sweep of CSU-Pueblo

How It Happened
A tremendous night from LaRose Currie allowed #18 Colorado School of Mines to earn a hard fought sweep of CSU-Pueblo 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) on Saturday, September 17 in Lockridge Arena.

A 15-kill, eight-dig night from LaRose Currie was needed as Mines (8-2, 2-0) had to fight back from deficits in both the first and second sets to hold off an upset minded Thunderwolves (3-8, 1-1) squad.

In the opening frame, Mines found themselves down 18-12 in looked to be in serious peril of dropping the first set. The Orediggers wouldn't go away though as the fought all the way back to tie it at 20, and then took a 22-21 lead they wouldn't relinquish. Starting setter Marina Hansen was massive in the Mines' comeback as she posted 16 assists and six digs in the frame.

The second set once again saw the Orediggers fall behind before going on a massive rally. This time they only trailed 19-16 before they reeled off nine consecutive points to take the frame, 25-19. That crazy run featured three kills from Alanna Winfield and two from Madeline Behr.

Finally, the third and final set didn't see another crazy Oredigger rally as the two teams fought tooth-and-nail through most of it. Tied at 14, Mines reeled off four consecutive points (with three errors by Pueblo) to get the cushion they needed to pull away for the 25-18 victory.
