PREVIEW: #17 Mines Heads to CCU & Westminster In Week Two RMAC Action

After going 2-0 in the opening weekend of RMAC play, Mines volleyball hits the road in week two with games at CCU and Westminster.Â
LAST WEEKEND REWIND
Mines opened up the defense of their RMAC Championship this past weekend with a pair of victories over New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo. First, Â after dropping the first set, Mines rallied and dominated NMHU in the final three frames to pick up an easy 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-8). The Orediggers also trailed late in the first two sets against Pueblo, but each time rallied and pulled off the 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) sweep.
RMAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
That successful weekend was due in large part to the fantastic work put in by senior libero
Taryn Huber who named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. Huber was awesome in the Orediggers' two victories as she posted 43 digs for a 6.14 d/s average. She was also perfect in serve receives as she successfully passed on 31 attempts.
The Austin, Texas native first posted 16 digs and four assists in the 3-1 victory over the Cowgirls of NMHU. She then followed that with a 27-dig, two-assist performance in the sweep of CSU-Pueblo.Â

That 2-0 week also allowed the Orediggers to move up on spot in the latest AVCA national ranking to #17. Mines remains as the only RMAC school in the national rankings. To find the full rankings, please visit HERE.
IN THE RMAC STATS
Three weeks in and Mines finds itself near the top of most RMAC statistical categories. The Orediggers lead the conference in hitting percentage (.248), are second in assists (13.19), third in kills (13.77) and fourth in service aces (1.43).
Individually,
Alanna Winfield is second in the league in kills per set (4.06) and sixth in hitting percentage (.335).
Ellie Monarch is third in the league in hitting percentage at a .372 clip. As mentioned,
Taryn Huber is second in the RMAC with 5.20 d/s, and
Marina Hansen is fifth with 9.64 a/s.
LaRose Currie is also 10th in the league in service aces per at 0.34.
SERIES RECORDS
Mines is 27-20 all-time against Colorado Christian and have won four straight against the Cougars. The Orediggers are 1-0 all-time against Westminster with last season's 3-0 victory in Salt Lake City the first ever meeting.
SCOUTING COLORADO CHRISTIAN
Mines heads to nearby CCU tomorrow evening to take on a Cougars team with a 7-4 overall record and a 1-1 mark in RMAC action. The Cougars lost a five-setter with CSU-Pueblo last Friday night and rebounded with a sweep of New Mexico Highlands on Saturday. Colorado Christian boasts a solid offense that averages 12.78 k/s, 12.12 a/s and hits at a collective a .195 – all numbers come within the top-six in the conference. Sophia Proana averages 3.76 k/s and hits a .298 clip to pace that offense. They are also a great blocking team with 2.01 blocks per frame.
SCOUTING WESTMINSTER
The Orediggers head to Salt Lake City on Saturday to take on a 2-8, 0-2 Westminster squad. The Griffins' lone victories were over Minot State and Texas A&M International, and were swept last weekend by both Western State and Colorado Mesa. WC is near the bottom in almost every single conference statistical category.Â
