#21 Orediggers Roll Up Regis in Four Sets

GOLDEN, Colo. – The #21-ranked Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team returned to the win column Saturday night with a dominant, four-set victory over Regis inside Lockridge Arena.

Mines (18-3, 12-1 RMAC) attacked the Rangers (14-8, 10-3 RMAC) with balance as five Orediggers registered double-digit kills. Lindsey Jin led all players with 14 kills while teammate Taylor Hicken was right behind with 13 of her own. Amanda Donais was stellar yet again with her second straight double-double, knocking down 11 kills and racking up 13 digs. Janice Jin also had 11 kills and Abby Tiesman closed the night with 12.

The Orediggers were balanced and dominant on defense as well. Elle Duis joined Donais in double digits with 14 digs, while Drew Stokes and Tiesman registered three blocks each. In addition to her blocks, Stokes dished out 49 assists to go along with five kills on five attempts.

As a team, Mines claimed double-digit advantages over Regis in almost every category including kills (66-45), assists (63-41) and digs (62-44). With the victory, the Orediggers sweep the regular-season series with the Rangers after winning in five sets at Regis on Sept. 7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first three sets were all back-and-forth affairs through the first 20 points with 19 ties and seven lead changes in the match. Critical errors by Regis and a pair of kills from Donais provided separation in game one as Mines took the opening set, 25-23.

Both teams put together big runs in the second set with the Rangers running off seven unanswered before Mines responded with an 11-1 run to take a 19-13 lead. Regis would attempt to rally back, but Tiesman would have none of it. She contributed three of Mines' last five points with a pair of kills and a service ace as the Orediggers took a 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Mines came out of the break firing on all cylinders as it hit .400 in the third set, looking for the sweep. However, Regis wasn't done yet as the Rangers hit .306 with three service aces and two total blocks to claim game three, 25-23 and avoid the sweep.

The Orediggers returned to form in the final set, hitting .444 as team while holding the Rangers to .032 on the attack. Janice Jin led the way to victory with four kills in the fourth game including the match-clinching point. Donais and Hicken contributed three kills each while Stokes racked up five digs with a kill and a block.
