THIS WEEK
Mines will continue its young season Thursday, hosting Northeastern JC at 7 p.m. Note that the dual has moved to Steinhauer Fieldhouse instead of Volk Gym; all fans are asked to enter the facility via the Illinois St. side doors.
LAST WEEK
Mines got its new season off to a terrific start, taking bonus points in eight matches to beat Otero JC 46-3 in the season opener last Thursday. The Orediggers collected five falls in the match, four coming in the first period thanks to
Matt Lavengood,
Noah Ottum,
Skyler Lykins, and
Robert Gambrell. The match was also notable for the returns of several Orediggers as Lavengood and Gambrell notched wins coming off redshirt seasons a year ago, and Lykins hit the mat in a Mines singlet for the first time since 2014-15.
On Saturday at Wyoming's Cowboy Open, Mines had four placewinners as
Connor Ventura was the runner-up in the Elite 184 bracket and
Jake Stogdill second in the Amateur 125 class, while
Ryan Fidel and
Drew Hinkle earned third-place spots at Amateur 157 and 174, respectively.

IN THE RANKINGS
Mines popped up in the NWCA preseason rankings, with
Noah Au-Yeung earning the #6 spot at 133 pounds and Mines receiving votes towards the team top 25. Au-Yeung went 14-9 last year, qualifying for his first career NCAA Championships as a junior.
OTTUM EARNS PRESEASON RECOGNITION
Noah Ottum was picked as Preseason All-RMAC at 149 pounds earlier this month after a breakout freshman season saw him go 22-10 to co-lead Mines in wins. Ottum went 6-3 in duals with four majors, three falls, and three tech falls to generate 26 team dual points. In tournament action, Ottum was fifth at RMAC Championships and third at the Hastings Cusatis Open.
