Martin Breaks Out as #25 Mines Sweeps Adams State

GOLDEN, Colo.  – True freshman Hannah Martin had a breakout performance Friday night as she helped the #25-ranked Colorado School of Mines Volleyball sweep past Adams State in the Orediggers' RMAC home opener inside Lockridge Arena.

Martin finished the match with a career-high 12 kills while hitting .421. The Arkansas native also picked up three digs and one block along the way. Abby Tiesman led all players with 13 kills on 22 attempts (.455) with three digs and a block. Janice Jin joined her teammates in double digits with 10 kills on 21 attempts (.429). Drew Stokes was outstanding as she pumped out assists at a rate nearing 15 assists per set for a total of 44 on the night. Stokes also tallied five kills while hitting .625 with six digs.

As a team, the Orediggers (10-2, 4-0 RMAC) hit .369 while Adams State (4-7, 1-2 RMAC) swung .320. Mines outscored the Grizzlies in every statistical category except for total blocks and digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines trailed 17-16 in the opening set before kills by Martin and Taylor Hicken sparked a 4-1 run to go up 20-18 on the way to a 25-23 win. The Orediggers hit for 20 kills in the set (.390), including six by Martin alone.

Errors piled up early in the second set for Mines as Adams State ran out to an 18-15 lead, but a Tiesman-Martin block, an ASU error, and a Tiesman kill brought things to a 20-20 tie. The Orediggers took their first lead since 5-4 after Stokes' dump and an ASU error forced a Grizzly timeout at 22-21, and Hicken's solo block and another ASU error out of the break brought up set point for Megan Neil's kill off the block.

The third set was another tight one as the two sides traded leads until back-to-back Tiesman kills made it 22-20. Mines closed it out on kills by Stokes and Hicken to hit a match-best .452 in the set.
