#20 Mines Wins Three Weight Classes At CMU Open

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - #20 Colorado School of Mines won three weight classes in a successful day at the Colorado Mesa Open on Saturday.
Carter Noehre (149),
Jack Damenti (157), and
Anderson Salisbury and
TJ Shelton (184) all came out on top of their weight classes to lead 10 Orediggers in competition at the tournament.
Noehre had an outstanding tournament with two falls and two tech falls to cruise to a 149 title. He had a pin over Northeastern JC's Ariel Rodriguez in the first round, then blanked Ryan Wilson of Western Colorado 16-0 before a 20-3 tech fall over Zac Musselman of Western Wyoming. In the final, Noehre needed just 23 seconds to pin Sam Freeman of Western Colorado.
Damenti was 3-0 with two decisions and a fall to win at 157 pounds. Damenti beat Kekana Fouret of Utah Valley 5-1 to start before pinning Colton Frost-Bryant of Northeastern JC in 1:25; he then outlastest Anthony Herrera of Western Wyoming 11-9 and won via a medical forfeit in the final.
At 184, both Salisbury and Shelton won through their halves of the bracket and then did not contest the final. Salisbury pinned UNLV's Richard Kilgore in 2:25 then worked overtime to win 6-4 over Hayden Wempen of NEJC; he then had an 18-3 tech fall over Patrick Romero of Colorado Mesa to advance to the final. Shelton had a 3:43 fall to start his day and a 16-0 tech fall against UNLV's Sean Thomsen, then beat Hunter Morse 5-2 in the semis.
Drew Hinkle placed third at 174 with a 4-1 day, advancing to the quarterfinals and then wrestling back through consolations. Hinkle sealed up third with a first-period fall over Hayden Johnson of Western Colorado.
Perry Rodenbeck was sixth, advancing to the semis and then falling into consolations and suffering medical forfeits to Hinkle and his fifth-place opponent Tucker Allison of Chadron State.Â
Mines also had two entrants at 197 with
Keegan Bean taking third and
Anthony Spallino sixth. Bean lost his opener but came back to win his third-place bout 12-8 over CMU's Dillon Ryan; Spallino took sixth after a forfeit following a semifinal loss. Michael True ended up fourth at 285 in a 4-2 day, and
Aidan Funk suffered an 0-2 day at 165.Â
Mines will head to the UNK Open on Nov. 23 and the Midwest Classic on Dec. 14-15 in Indianapolis to round out the fall semester.
