GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - #9 Colorado School of Mines stayed perfect in RMAC competition, never trailing as they defeated #25 Colorado Mesa on the road 28-11. 

The Orediggers (5-2, 4-0 RMAC) were led by Nolan Funk's overtime upset of #8 Donnie Negus at 197, while Ryan Fidel and Weston Hunt secured pins and Noah Ottum had a major decision.

The win leaves Mines and Western Colorado (2-0) as the lone unbeatens remaining in the RMAC. Mines and Western square off in Gunnison on Feb. 1.

The Orediggers got off to a great start as Matt Lavengood and reigning RMAC Wrestler of the Week Jake Woods picked up decisions before Daniel Van Hoose defeated Taylor Gambill at 141 to cut the Mines lead to 6-3. Mines got it back and then some when Noah Ottum came back from an early deficit to beat Dyllan Fuch 14-5, and Fidel's pin against Dylan Ranieri at 157 extended the lead to 16-3.

Fred Green upset #6 Skyler Lykins 13-5 at 165, but #2 Robert Gambrell shut out Seth Latham 5-0 at 174 before CMU's Nolan Krone earned a 15-1 major against Connor Ventura at 184 making it 19-11.

That gave CMU a glimmer of hope but Funk won the match of the night at 197 to shut the door. Against the nationally-ranked Negus, Funk secured a late takedown to force overtime at 5-5, and the two went to the second tiebreak where a Funk escape earned him the victory. Hunt then punctuated the dual with his first-period pin of Hunter Mooring.
