DeVoe took over as Mines' Head Wrestling Coach in July 2014 after one season as the Interim Head Coach during the 2013-14 season. For the previous two seasons prior to his interim season, DeVoe served as an assistant on the Mines coaching staff.
Since taking over the program, DeVoe has constructed a complete turnaround that culminated in Mines' first-ever RMAC championship in 2018-19 as the Orediggers went 11-3 overall (a modern-era record for wins) and 6-1 in the conference. DeVoe was named the RMAC and NWCA Regional Coach of the Year as the Orediggers qualified four wrestlers - the most in a decade - to NCAA Championships. Noah Ottum became the DeVoe's first Academic All-American while Weston Hunt won the NCAA regional title at heavyweight. DeVoe was also named the recipient of the prestigious Bob Bubb Coaching Excellence Award from the NWCA after the season.
Prior to the 2018-19 season, Mines had posted multiple program bests in duals in 2015-16 (8-4) and 2017-18 (10-2) marking the best dual record since 1960. DeVoe has had two all-Americans (John Crowley and Jacob Gerken) during his tenure, and Paul Wilson captured the 2016 RMAC and NCAA Super Regional titles en route to a national #1 ranking at 197 pounds.
Prior to his time at Mines, DeVoe served as the Assistant Wrestling Coach at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, coaching 10 student-athletes to the NCAA Division I National Tournament. During his time at UNC, he took on responsibilities with recruiting, marketing, team operations, assisted in planning and developing workouts as well as serving as the tournament director for the UNC wrestling tournament.
DeVoe also served as the National Team Coach for the Kansas Junior National Wrestling Team from 2004-10.
For eight years, DeVoe ran his own wrestling camp and served as both a director and coach conducting camps in Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas and Nevada. DeVoe previously served as a camp counselor for six years at Brian Smith's Tiger Style Wrestling Camps.
In 2006, DeVoe graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in parks, recreation and tourism. DeVoe was a four-year letterwinner during his time at Missouri. He garnered Big XII Academic All-American honors, was named to the Big XII Commisioner's Honor Roll and was a National Championship Qualifier. As a freshman, DeVoe was named Outstanding Freshman Wrestler of the Year.
In 2010, DeVoe was inducted into the Columbus Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. A 2001 graduate of Columbus High School, DeVoe was a four-time State Finalist and three-time State Champion. DeVoe was named 4A State Wrestler of the Year and was an NHSCA Sr. National All-American.
As a freestyle wrestler, DeVoe was a two-time Jr. National All-American as well as a Fila Cadet and Fila Junior National All-American. DeVoe was a University Nationals Freestyle Champion, a Fila Junior World Team Trial Finalist and a two-time University National All-American. He also competed internationally in Greece and Bulgaria on the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-American.
DeVoe's wife, Shannon, also coaches at Mines as an assistant with the women's soccer program. They have two daughters.
