#21 Mines Drops Five-Set Match to CCU

GOLDEN, Colo. – #21 Colorado School of Mines (20-6, 14-3) dropped a tough 3-2 (28-26, 25-21, 17-25, 27-25, 14-16) match at Colorado Christian (19-9, 11-6) on Tuesday, November 8 at Lockridge Arena.

The Orediggers grinded out a victory in the opening set, 28-26, behind a massive eight kills from Alanna Winfield. Mines then rode the momentum of the first set victory was able to get up by four points midway through the second frame. While CCU came back and got it within one (19-18), Mines never relinquished the lead and took the game, 25-21.

While the Orediggers went into the break up by two games-to-none, Colorado Christian came out of intermission and were able to take over the match. They took the second and third sets by identical scores of 25-17 to force a fifth set.

The fifth set reverted back to the pace of the first two frames as the two teams traded the lead back-and-forth with neither able to pull away. Tied at 14-14, back-to-back attacking errors by the Orediggers gave CCU the match.

The loss spoiled a great match from Alanna Winfield who posted 21 kills on .275 hitting. Ellie Monarch also posted 12 kills and nine blocks.
