Orediggers Upended By Colorado Mesa

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines was unable to overcome long range sharp shooting from Colorado Mesa as they fell by the final of 72-66 on Friday, January 13 in Lockridge Arena.

Mines (9-10, 5-5) connected on more field goals (25-19) and shot a better percentage (38.5%-to-36.5%), but 11 of CMU's (10-4, 7-3) 19 made field goals were three-pointers. They also went 23-26 from the free throw line to steal the road victory.

The first half saw the Orediggers get out to an early 12-10 lead in the first quarter on the back of four points from Laura Tyree and an impressive four steals from Emily Bailey. Mines then largely kept that lead into the second quarter, but a 13-point period from CMU's Bryanna Adams gave the Mavericks a 33-29 advantage at the break. Adams ended with a game-high 28 points.

The third quarter really saw the Mines offense come to life as they nearly equaled their first half scoring total with 26 points en route to a 55-49 lead by the end of the period. Seven different Orediggers scored in the quarter with eight coming Mikaela Moore and seven from Emily Bailey.

Unfortunately, the Mavericks heated back up and outscored the Orediggers 23-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away with the 72-66 victory. An Erin Reichle three-pointer with 3:38 to go put Colorado Mesa up for good as they closed the game on an 11-4 run.
