Orediggers Fall At Fort Lewis, 72-60

DURANGO, Colo. - A cold shooting night for Colorado School of Mines and Fort Lewis foul shooting combined for a 72-60 Skyhawk win on the road in Durango.

Mines (15-13, 11-8 RMAC) had cut the Skyhawk (19-6, 14-6 RMAC) lead to as low as four with 6:52 remaining in the game, but Fort Lewis found a 13-3 run after that point to secure the victory.

Kayla Herrera scored 27 points for the Skyhawks. Mikaela Moore and Elizabeth Tomon each scored 14 for Mines, as Moore added nine rebounds.

Fort Lewis went 26-of-32 at the line and shot 40.8 percent from the floor while holding Mines to 27.5 percent overall and 18-of-29 at the stripe.

The teams traded the lead in a low-scoring first quarter that ended 13-11 Fort Lewis, but the Skyhawks took control with a 12-0 run to begin the second quarter and they would not relinquish that lead.

Mines cut the lead to single digits in the third quarter, getting as close as four when Moore hit a layup midway through the period, but a 5-2 run to end the quarter put FLC back up 49-40. Mines came out with a 6-0 spurt in the fourth quarter to make it 60-46, but FLC responded with a 10-3 run to lead 60-49, and they would win going away.
