Mines Finishes Fall With 3rd-Place Showing

PUEBLO, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines golf wrapped up its fall season by tying for third at the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational, led by
Tim Amundson's fourth-place finish.
The Orediggers went low with a -10 278 team score to end up at -17, but couldn't catch up to winner CSU Pueblo (-28) on their home course or a -10 day by second-place Texas A&M International (-23). Mines did catch Hutchinson CC (-17) to move up a spot from Monday, and finished 12 strokes up on fifth-place Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa.
Tim Amundson led the way on Tuesday with a superb five-under 67, marking seven birdies in his round to move up to a fourth-place finish at -8. It marked Amundson's second straight top-five finish this fall as he made five of his birdies in a 10-hole opening stretch to rise up the leaderboard from 10th overnight.
Preston Smith and
Ryan Hunter ended up at T14 (-3), as Smith shot 69 and Hunter held par at 72, while
Jake Welch matched his career-low of 70 to move up to T16 (-2) in the final standings.
Bradley Vu shot 79 to land at T55 (+12). Competing as an individual,
Colin Dubnik shot an even-par 72 to end T29 at +1.
NOTABLES
- Amundson's top-5 finish was the 10th of his career, making him just the third Oredigger - along with Michael Lee and
George Markham - to hit double digits under head coach
Tyler Kimble.
- Amundson's 67 marked the low round of the fall by an Oredigger golfer. All six of his rounds this fall were under par.Â
- Smith's 69 marked his season low. The 2020 all-American bounced back from an opening-round 73 to shoot 71 and 69 to end at -3 for the week.
- Welch matched his career-low 70 from the Mile High Shootout second round in September.Â
- Mines' -10 day day their best since shooting 272 (-12) at the Midwestern State Invitational on Oct. 15, 2019.
- CSU Pueblo's Jamie Roberts won medalist honors at -12. TAMUI's Hunter McDonough and Ryan Staykov tied for second at -10, two shots ahead of Amundson.Â
