GOLDEN, Colo. – A cold shooting outing was too much to overcome as the Colorado School of Mines fell 66-52 to Colorado Christian on Saturday, February 11 at Lockridge Arena.
While Mines (15-12, 11-7) got a double-double from
Laura Tyree it wasn't enough as the team shot a collective 26.5% from the field. CCU (10-13, 8-10) got double-doubles from each of Alex Nelson (18p, 10r) and Mikala Gordon (17p, 11r) to even up the season series. Mines won the previous encounter against the Cougars, 79-62, in Lakewood on January 24.
The Orediggers fell in a hole early as CCU used a 17-5 run that stretched into parts of the first and second quarter to get out to a 27-11 lead. In fact, the Cougars led by as much as 19 (34-15) en route to a 36-23 halftime advantage.Â
As the game moved to the third quarter, Mines appeared as though it would comeback as
Emily Bailey and
Elizabeth Tomon closed the deficit to 43-36 midway through the third quarter, but the Cougars responded and pushed it lead back out to 14 (52-38) by the start of the fourth period.Â
Mines made one more push in the fourth quarter as they closed the deficit to only five, 56-51, but once again CCU responded as they closed the game out on a 10-1 run.
